Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice explains how Lingomate AI ("we", "us"), trading as LingoMate AI, collects and uses personal data when you use our Tamil and English language learning platform. Lingomate AI is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at support@lingomateai.com.

1. Personal data we collect and why

• Account data (name, email address, login credentials, authentication provider identifiers) — to create and secure your account. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
• Learning data (lesson and level progress, quiz and exercise scores, vocabulary lists, placement assessment results, streaks) — to provide the service and personalise your learning path. Legal basis: performance of contract.
• AI tutor content (chat messages, prompts and voice recordings you submit for speech recognition or pronunciation feedback) — to generate tutor responses and pronunciation scoring. Legal basis: performance of contract.
• Support messages — to answer your questions. Legal basis: performance of contract and our legitimate interest in supporting users.
• Usage and device data (feature usage, request logs, approximate location derived from IP address, IP address, browser and device identifiers) — for security, abuse and fraud prevention, rate limiting, troubleshooting and product improvement. Legal basis: legitimate interests, and legal obligation where applicable.
• Subscription status (plan, renewal period, cancellation state) — to give you access to the features you paid for. Legal basis: performance of contract.

We do not collect or store your card details. Payments are processed by our payment gateway, Razorpay.

2. Who we share data with

• Payment gateway — Razorpay: to process payments, verify transactions and handle refunds.
• Service providers and subprocessors: cloud hosting and database providers, AI model providers used to generate tutor responses, speech-to-text and text-to-speech providers, email delivery, analytics and error monitoring tools.
• Professional advisers: legal, accounting and audit providers where necessary.
• Authorities: where required by law or to protect our legal rights.

We do not sell your personal data.

3. International transfers

Our providers may process data outside your country, including outside the UK and EEA. Where that happens we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision.

4. Retention

We keep account and learning data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within 90 days, except where we must keep records longer for tax, accounting, security or legal reasons. Voice recordings used for pronunciation feedback are retained only as long as needed to return a result and are then deleted. Logs are typically retained for up to 12 months.

5. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your personal data, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to withdraw consent at any time. Email support@lingomateai.com and we will respond within one month. If you are in the UK or EEA, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection supervisory authority.

6. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, encryption at rest, row-level access controls on our database, least-privilege access for staff and rate limiting on AI endpoints. No system is perfectly secure, but we review our controls regularly.

7. Cookies and similar technologies

We use essential cookies and local storage to keep you signed in and remember your preferences; these are required for the service to work. We may use limited analytics cookies to understand which learning features are used. We do not use advertising cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, though sign-in will not work without essential cookies.

8. Children

Learners under the age required by local law to consent to online services should use LingoMate AI only with the involvement of a parent, guardian or school.
